泥をかぶる
「ほかの人の責任を負う・嫌な役目を引き受ける」
To take on the responsibilities of another person / To take the fall.
選挙違反をした政治家を守るため、秘書が泥をかぶって逮捕された
To protect the politician who made a election violation the secretary took the fall and was arrested.
泥顔に~を塗る
「恥をかかせる・面目を失わせる」
To lose face / To bring shame
親の顔に泥を塗るような行動をしてはいけない。
You should not bring shame to your parents.
花が咲く
「盛り上がる」
to become lively (esp. of conversation); to become animated
高校時代の友人と話していると、昔話に花が咲く
When I speak about the good old days with my high school friend It gets pretty lively.
