肩を持つ
「味方をする・ひいきする」
To take the other person side / To favor the other
両方の話を聞かずに片方の肩を持つのは不公平だと思う。
Not listening to both conversations and only favoring one I think is unfair.
肩の荷が下りる
「責任や負担から解放されて、楽になる」
To relieve oneself of responsibility and burden.
会長の立場から退いて、やっと肩の荷が下りた。
The president was removed from his position and was finally relieved of his duties.
首を捻る
「疑いや反対の気持ちを持つ/理解できなくて、考える」
To have doubt or hold opposition/ unable to understand or stuck thinking.
彼は納得ができないのか、首を捻っている。
He couldn't be convinced and was stuck with nothing but doubt.
